Paraje calificado cavas are a category of sparkling wines produced in the Cava region of Spain. This category was created in 2017 with the aim of recognizing the highest quality cavas and establishing a hierarchy in the Cava denomination of origin.

What characteristics should a Cava de Paraje Calificado have?

To be considered cavas from a qualified area, the wines must meet a series of strict requirements, such as: being produced from grapes grown on a specific plot and on the same property for at least 10 years, using only the varieties of authorized grapes. They also have to follow specific winemaking and aging methods of a minimum of 36 months of aging.

Which wineries have Cavas de Paraje Calificado?

In addition, cavas from a qualified area must go through rigorous evaluation and approval by the Cava Regulatory Council before they can be labeled as such. Only 12 Qualifying Sites have been designated to date, each with its own unique personality and characteristics.
