Types of Gin

Gin is a distilled alcoholic beverage that originated in the 17th century in the Netherlands. Since then, it has evolved and has become a popular drink all over the world. Today, there are a wide variety of gins available, each with their own unique flavors and characteristics. In this description, we will focus on the different types of gins that can be found on the market today.

What types of gin are there?

There are several types of gin, each with distinctive characteristics and flavors.

Flavored Gins: Flavored gins are characterized by having a classic gin base to which flavors are added to create a unique flavor profile. Some of the more common flavors include vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and pepper. These gins can be enjoyed neat or used as a base for creative cocktails.

Fruity Gins: Fruity gins are made by adding fruit flavors to the gin base. Some of the more common fruits used in these gins include strawberry, raspberry, peach, and lemon. These gins are usually sweeter than the classic ones and are ideal for sweet and fruity cocktails.

Citrus gins: Citrus gins are those that are made by adding citrus flavors such as orange, lemon and lime. These gins have a fresh and vibrant flavor profile and are ideal for refreshing cocktails such as gin and tonic or tom collins.

Classic Gins: Classic gins are those that are made using the traditional gin ingredients: juniper, coriander, angelica and orris root. These gins typically have a dry and spicy flavor profile and are ideal for classic cocktails such as martinis and gin and tonics.

Herbal Gins: Herbal gins are made by adding herbal flavors to the gin base. Some of the more common herbs used in these gins include thyme, rosemary, and sage. These gins have a more complex flavor profile and can be used for creative cocktails.

Spiced Gins: Spiced gins are made by adding spicy flavors to the gin base. Some of the more common spices used in these gins include cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves. These gins have a warm flavor profile and can be used for winter cocktails.

Floral Gins: Floral gins are made by adding floral flavors to the gin base. Some of the more common flowers used in these gins include lavender, jasmine, and rose. These gins have a delicate flavor profile and can be used for elegant cocktails.

Non-alcoholic Gins: Non-alcoholic gins are a great alternative for those who want the taste and experience of a gin, but without the alcohol content. These gins are made through a technique known as vacuum distillation, which removes alcohol from the distillation process, but allows the flavors and aromas to concentrate in the final blend.

Instead of alcohol, water or an herbal base is used to dilute the gin, resulting in a drink that is very low in calories and contains no alcohol. Often these gins are mixed with non-alcoholic tonics to create a low-calorie, non-alcoholic soft drink that is refreshing and delicious.

Non-alcoholic gins are available in many different flavors, including classic juniper options, as well as more fruity and floral options. These non-alcoholic gins can also be infused with a variety of herbs and spices to create unique and complex flavors.
