Branco Lexítimo is a white grape variety from Galicia, known for its long history and cultivation in the protected regions of Betanzos, Ribeiras do Morrazo, and Barbanza-Iria. It is also known as Raposo, Blanco Verdín or Blanco País. For centuries, wine was produced with Branco Lexítimo in Galicia, but the plagues of the 19th century almost made the vineyards disappear. The Branco Lexítimo grapes are oval in shape, green-yellow in color, and ripen early. The clusters are compact and small. Although it is a very aromatic grape, its production is moderate-low, which led to its replacement by varieties with higher yields, but less climatic adaptation. It is resistant to botrytis.
The wines made with Branco Lexítimo have a high alcohol content and are pale yellow in color. They have an intense aromatic potential and a moderate acidity. On the palate, they are characterized by being sweet, fruity, and slightly unbalanced when they are made as monovarietal. It is ideal to mix with the Agudelo variety. The wines are usually young, although you can also find crianzas.
