Grape type variety was originated in Catalunya. Xarel·lo is an extensively cultivated grape-type over Penedès and Tarragona known as White Xarel·lo Wines and Alella, like Pansa Blanca White Wines.
The bunches are medium size and compact, with a yellowish colour that once matured, becomes golden. Nowadays it can be found everywhere in Spain: Xarel·lo Rioja white wines, Alava Xarel·lo white wines, Navarra Xarel·lo white wines and Costers del Segre Xarel·lo white wines.
It is usually used as a coupage with Parellada, Chardonnay and Macabeu to obtain dry white wines that are pale and fresh with fruity aroma from apple or lemon. White Xarel·lo wines can be aged to gain structure, compote, and spicy aromas.
Xarel·lo grape is used to get sparkling wines. These sparkling wines depends directly on the Xarel·lo production.
