Sparkling wines known as cavas de paraje calificado are highly valued for their quality and flavour. Originally from the Cava region of Spain, this category of wines was established in 2017 with the purpose of distinguishing the most exceptional cavas and establishing a hierarchical rank within the Cava denomination of origin.
For a cava to be considered from a qualified area, it must meet rigorous requirements, including being produced only from grapes grown on a specific plot, using only authorized grape varieties, as well as following specific vinification and aging methods with a A minimum of 36 months of aging.
The evaluation and approval by the Cava Regulatory Council is also essential for the designation of a cava as a qualified spot. To date, only 12 qualified sites have been named, each with unique characteristics.
