Swiss Gins

Swiss gins are an exquisite and surprising option for lovers of this popular spirit drink. Although Switzerland is primarily known for its chocolates and cheeses, its range of spirits has also flourished, offering high-quality gins that shouldn't be overlooked.

How are Swiss gins made?

The production of Swiss gins combines traditional methods with high quality ingredients to create unique products. The process begins with a base of neutral alcohol that is obtained from grains or Swiss grapes. A selection of carefully chosen botanicals are added to this base, such as juniper, coriander, angelica, orris root, citrus peel, and other aromatic ingredients. The botanicals are macerated in neutral alcohol for a certain period to extract their flavors and aromas. Next, it is distilled in traditional copper stills or in modern distillation columns, which allows impurities to be removed and a distilled alcohol with the desired flavors and characteristics to be obtained.

Some Swiss gins can also be aged in oak barrels for a smoother, more complex flavor profile. During this process, the gin can acquire additional notes from the wood. Once the distillation and, where appropriate, the aging process are finished, the gin is adjusted to the desired alcohol content by diluting it with purified water and bottled for sale.

The elaboration of Swiss gins is characterized by its focus on the quality of the ingredients, the meticulousness in the selection of botanicals and the use of precise distillation techniques. This results in Swiss gins with distinctive flavor profiles and careful attention to detail, which have gained recognition and appreciation in the gin world.
