Monastrell Wines

The Monastrell red variety is native to the southeast of Spain. There are more than 60,000 hectares of Monastrell wine where it is a question of getting the maximum potential of each of the clusters. Monastrell wine is generally found in Spain, although in France it is known as Mouvèdre, just like in Germany.

What is the Monastrell grape variety like?

In addition to being one of the most cultivated varieties in Spain, it is also used as a base wine for many coupages. It is found in warm areas, is very fertile and widely produced. The Monastrell grape vine is weak, with medium, cylindrical and compact grape clusters. They have a blue hue as well as being very sweet with a great balance of alcohol and acidity.

How is Monastrell wine?

Monastrell wine or also known as Mouvèdre red wines, are intense ruby in color with violet hues. They are red wines with a lot of body and a great wealth of powerful aromas of black berries. They also tend to have a high aging potential. Among all the denominations, the Monastrell wine from Alicante stands out with aromas of strawberry and cherry, which complements perfectly with the Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha varieties. We also find the Monastrell de Jumilla wine with some very fruity cherry red wines. On the palate they obtain smoky nuances and perfectly integrated tannins to obtain this Monastrell wine.

What else can be highlighted about Monastrell wine?

Monastrell wines are also known as Mouvèdre or Mataró. The serving temperature of Mouvèdre red wines is between 15ºC and 18ºC. Monastrell wine combines perfectly with grilled meat dishes, stews and mature cheeses.
